Plastic Free July is all about empowering and inspiring change by encouraging us to say no to plastics. It might seem like a big challenge, but we can eliminate the use of single-use plastics by taking small steps and gradually shifting towards a more sustainable lifestyle.
Plastic Free July is a global movement started by the Plastic Free Foundation in 2011. Its mission is to reduce the demand for single-use plastics, raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic waste and empower individuals to make lasting changes. Plastic consumption poses various environmental and health risks including pollution, microplastic contamination, waste management challenges, natural resource depletion, land and wildlife destruction and chemical leaching.
The challenge of Plastic Free July is to commit to refusing single—use plastics throughout the entire month. Are you up for the challenge?! We recommend adopting a mindful approach to your daily habits and embracing the waste management hierarchy of refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle as guiding principles.
If you still find yourself using plastics, don’t worry! You can bring them to PRo Kansas Recycling located at 725 E. Clark St. We are open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-4 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We ensure responsible handling of recyclable materials so they can be diverted from landfills and given a second life.
